So I'm kind of stuck on this topic...

Pro-life. I can't stop thinking about these two words that are connected with a dash. What the heck? It's like everyday I'm reminded of it...

Here's what's on my brain...If someone is going to be Pro-Life, what about the death penalty and war? Where do you stand on that?

I'm pro life but I also stand on the democratic side. I may not agree with all things democratic but it is also part of a protest for me...that not all Christians have to be Republicans and not all Republicans are Christian.

But truly...how can you say you are for life but also be for death?

I understand, abortion is about the babies. No person wants a baby to die, but seriously they are humans, just like a 19 year old soldier or a civilian of any age that just happened to be raised in the wrong country at the wrong time...

or what about a 40 year old murderer...we are all sinners and who is to say that not everyone is deserving of grace?

Thoughts?

see...i think this is why it's not good for us politicize our faith.... because when it all comes down to it-we're never going to agree completely with the way our political system is ran. we're never going to believe the same, feel the same, live the same. i totally feel you on this post hannah. and don't you think its just stupid to waste hours arguing about politics when we could be out loving the people that politics affect? living life with them.... oohh, my brain is spinning now..we must hang out again, yea? J & i are hitting up the blues festival on Saturday afternoon/evening if you're looking for some fun :) love you!

For me it's very simple...

Of Course Jesus says it better in Matthew 15:1-20.

At the end of the day shouldn't we as Christians and as human beings with a soul, be for life? Especially when we're talking about the life an innocent human being that has barley lived a breath (I'm assuming you've heard of the partial birth abortions that Obama had no quams with). I was totally on the fence politcally and then got to thinking "This issue is a deal breaker for me". If we devalue life at it's most pure, innocent level then what kind of monsters have we become? Anyway, just passionate about it, that's all. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and getting the rest of us to wrestle through our positions.

Hey Hannah...just a suggestion, but you may want to do a little research re: pro life in the Roman Catholic circles. They have been staunchly and consistently against the horrors of abortion, but many also have a hard line on death penalty, etc.

One thought...as far as the war issue. We do have the luxury of living in an era when we have an all-volunteer army. So, I don't think that the pro-life argument can logically extend to a volunteer soldier. Although I do not agree with the Iraq war and wish we were out of it, war ( and there is a time and a place for Just War...I suggest reading Augustine) is an unfortunate reality and has difficult and horrible consequences. That said, I pray often for the soldiers at war and their safe return. I am in no way making light of the danger of their job, nor the sacrifice often required.

But, I would have to stand with Danielle in saying that abortion should be a deal breaker for any political alliance. It is horrific and though I know it is not ideal to put human life on some type of sliding scale I think that the life of an innocent baby would most precious and in need of defense and the death thereof, the most vile.

And, though I probably have an unpopular opinion in this modern age, we cannot expect God to ignore our nation's collective culpability for the sin of abortion. There is and will be judgment for this national sin and we will all have to give an account for our deeds/thoughts/voting records. Like I said, I know it is not a popular opinion to have, we should think of these things and let the weight of it all truly sink in.

I commend you on your openness and your willingness to hash it out. God bless!
